In response to the call for volunteers of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), volunteers from all walks of life have started arriving at the National Resource Operations Center (NROC) in Pasay City to help repack goods for survivors of Typhoon Ruby.

As of 12:00 noon today, there were 311 volunteers repacking in NROC aside  from the 206 volunteers from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

At least 450 volunteers per shift of eight hours are needed at NROC to repack 100,000 food packs for distribution to affected local government units (LGU) in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and MIMAROPA.

Alma Magalit, 47,  a retired nurse from Bagong Silangan, Quezon City, is one of the early volunteers.

Alma decided to volunteer in NROC hoping that her relatives from Sorsogon will benefit from it.

She has been doing volunteer work since she retired as nurse.

“I am really touched by stories of people struggling. In my own little way, somehow I can ease their burdens”, Alma said.

Another volunteer is Karleen Zambas, 22,  a student who opted to come to NROC since classes are suspended.

“Instead of doing nothing at home, I opted to join the repacking since I know I can really help victims of the typhoon,” Karleen said.

Walk-in volunteers may go to NROC and register their names at the Volunteers and Deployment Desk (VDD).

They may also contact Prescilla Nitafan at 09084215334 or Marlyn Cumba at 09173149206 for scheduling of shifts

After registration, they need to attend an orientation on their roles before their actual duty. ###
