On its 64th Anniversary, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) paid tribute to its partners and stakeholders during the Pagkilala sa Natatanging Kontribusyon sa Bayan (PaNata)  Awards today,  January 29,  at the DSWD Auditorium, Central Office, Batasan Hills, Quezon City.

The PaNata Awards confers recognition to non-government organizations (NGOs), local government units (LGUs), People’s Organizations (POs), and media persons and organizations, as well as volunteer individuals  and groups who have selflessly dedicated their time, energy, and resources helping DSWD carry out its mandate of improving the lives of the disadvantaged sector of society.

It likewise aims to encourage more individuals, groups, and organizations to support the programs and services of the Department.

This year’s awardees are:

Best Non-government organization:

Libmanan – Pulantuna Planters Federation, Inc.,  Cadlan, Pili, Camarines Sur – Region V

The organization  implements community-based programs and services to youth and farmers and their families in Region V focusing on community organizing, provision of livelihood programs, trainings and seminars, computer literacy programs to the farmers, and provides technical and vocational trainings to the youth.

Gawad sa Makabagong Teknolohiyang Panlipunan Award  (Best New Social Technology):

City Government of Manila

Protects the  environment  by encouraging the community to engage multi-sectoral partners towards sustainable livelihood interventions for Pantawid and Non-Pantawid poor beneficiaries such as waste segregation, street sweeping and dredging of canals.

Gawad sa Paglilingkod sa Sambayanan (GAPAS) Award:

(Model LGU Implementing any DSWD Project/s)

Local Government of Balanga City, Bataan City Social Welfare Development Office – Region III

The LGU is consistent in implementing  social welfare development projects  for vulnerable sectors, such as children.  It also utilizes  the Day Care Center Parents Groups as partners  in implementing the Supplemental Feeding Program  (SFP), with clear accounting of funds utilized, weight improvement of underweight children and continuing education

Model LGU Implementing Day Care Service

Local Government of Guagua, Pampanga, Region III

Its notable achievement is the establishment of 36 Day Care Centers (DCCs) employing Day Care Workers in 31 Barangays, with a total enrollment of 1,981 day care children, without a single drop out among the enrollees.

Model Self-Employment Assistance – Kaunlaran Association/Kabayan

Abaca (Burlap) Weavers Association Libon, Albay – Region V

The association shows its determination to uplift the standard of living of its members through resource based and market-driven enterprise, making use of the abundance of indigenous material, such as burlap which they turn into useful products like, ropes, bags, hats, and placemats, among others.

Model LGU Implementing KALAHI-CIDSS

Local Government of Alangalang, Province of Leyte – Region VIII

The LGU has been implementing KALAHI-CIDSS since 2012, and  is now completing cycle 3 under the KC-Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and starting cycle 1 under the National Community-Driven Development Program (NCDDP).

For the first time, DSWD recognized Provincial, Municipal, and City LGUs through the Gawad Listahanan Awards for using the database of poor families in identifying their program beneficiaries.  Winners were the Province of Ilocos Norte, Region I (Provincial   Government);  City of Escalante, Negros Occidental, Region VI (City Government); and, Municipality of Dalaguete, Cebu LISSTA Program – Region VII, (Municipal Government).

 

On the other hand, the Gawad Ulat is part of the PaNata Awards and given to media persons and organizations which have been most supportive of DSWD programs, projects and services through positive articles and most number of cost-free airtime.

DSWD Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman also acknowledged the valuable support    rendered by the  Department’s development partners, donors, and volunteers through the  Salamat Po Award .

“We value the contributions of all our development partners, NGOs, and volunteers. They helped us attain our goals in improving the quality of life of our beneficiaries,”  she said.

“The volunteers are a big help in facilitating the faster delivery of food packs in disaster-stricken areas,” the Secretary ended. ###
