The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said that as of 12 noon today, a total of P2.76 million worth of relief assistance from the combined resources of DSWD (P2.2 million) and concerned local government units (P559,123.00) was provided to the families affected by floods in Regions VI, VII, IX, X and XII.

The Department added that 32 evacuation centers remain open providing temporary shelter to 4,606 families composed of 15,981 persons  from regions VI, VII, IX, X, and XII which were affected by floods due to heavy rains brought by the Intertropical Convergence Zone.

In its 12 noon report based on data gathered by DSWD offices in the affected regions, 360 houses were damaged with 109 totally destroyed and 251 partially damaged. Region VI recorded the most number of damaged houses with 227

In Region VII, the DSWD field office continues to repack 4,906 family food packs costing P1,226,500.00 . The family packs will be distributed to the 2,453 affected families in Negros Oriental, tomorrow, October 10.

Social Welfare and Development Secretary Dinky Soliman said that the DSWD central office is currently processing the release of P1 million to DSWD-Field Office VII as additional standby fund to purchase relief supplies. The Field Office has at present P302,489 standby fund on top of its 272 family food packs, other food items worth P526,602.00 and non-food items worth P1.9 million.

Secretary Soliman added that P92.4 million worth of emergency relief resources have been prepositioned by the Department in all affected regions including the standby funds and food packs at the DSWD-National Resource Operation Centers. “These are ready for distribution to the affected local government units if necessary,” Secretary Soliman said.

Meanwhile, Secretary Soliman alerted all DSWD regional offices along the path of tropical depression “Santi” to closely coordinate with concerned local government units for any significant reports caused by the weather disturbance.  ###
