The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) recently turned over 30 core shelter units amounting to P2.1 million to families in Leyte who were displaced by typhoon Frank in 2008.

Social Welfare and Development Secretary Dinky Soliman and Leyte Governor Jericho ‘Icot’ Petilla led the turn over rites held in Barangay San Sebastian, Matag-ob, Leyte.

Each core shelter unit is worth P70,000 and is typhoon resistant that can withstand wind velocities of up to 220 kilometers per hour.

Out of the 30 recipients, 13 families are also beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilya program.

Secretary Soliman said that the DSWD released P1.3 million for the project, while the Leyte Provincial Government and Municipality of Matag-ob provided counterpart funds of P300,000 and P450,000, respectively.

Likewise, the DSWD gave P2,400.00 per beneficiary for the Cash-for-Work scheme to construct their houses.

Secretary Soliman expressed her appreciation to the local government officials of Leyte for their support as well as to Ms. Romila Omega–Colejar who donated the 6,317 square-meter lot where the core houses now stand.  ###
