College tutors trained by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) start the simultaneous reading sessions in the seven participating regions nationwide for the struggling and non-reader incoming Grade 2 beneficiaries of the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program on Monday (July 1).

The Youth Development Workers (YDWs) also conducted the first Nanay-Tatay teacher session among parents and guardians of the student-learners.

For this year’s targets, the DSWD will recruit 10,289 2nd to 4th -year college students from select state universities and colleges (SUCs) and local government-run universities, belonging to low-income families to become tutors and YDWs.

Participating local government units are from Regions 3 (Central Luzon), 7 (Central Visayas), 8 (Eastern Visayas), 10 (Northern Mindanao), 12 (SOCCSKSARGEN), CALABARZON, and the National Capital Region (NCR).
