Some P6,388,928.60 worth of relief goods were extended by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to the victims of typhoon Santi which occurred on October 11 affecting Central Luzon.

In her report to Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman, DSWD Field Office III Director Adelina S. Apostol said that the assistance was released to the concerned provincial/municipal government units and legislators of the affected areas.

Of the said amount, Nueva Ecija received P1,275,000.00; Bulacan with P2,125,000.00; Tarlac got P1,918,979.76; Pampanga-P944,948.84; and Aurora-P125,000.00.

The P6.3 million is in addition to the other assistance provided to the victims. As of 8:00 am today, a total of P14,684,788.52 from the combined resources of the DSWD and local government units (LGUs) has been released to the affected areas of the region.

Per disaster monitoring report, Santi has affected 211,308 or 1,002,600 persons from the 71 municipalities in the seven (7) provinces of Central Luzon. Of the total affected, 7,009 families or 29,755 persons temporarily stayed at the evacuation centers. In addition, some 33,602 families or 167,507 persons were served in their respective communities.

Of the 122 evacuation centers opened at the onset of the typhoon, 27 evacuation centers remain open serving 1,538 families or 6,587 persons. Per assessment, the victims will be staying at the evacuation centers for undetermined period before they can return to their respective houses due to their totally destroyed houses.

The typhoon destroyed 66,054 houses broken down as follows: 13,972 totally damaged and 52,082 partially damaged. There were also reported 22 dead and 34 injured persons.

Meanwhile, Secretary Soliman assured the local government units of the Department’s continuous support particularly in the rehabilitation of the affected families through Cash/Food for Work (C/FFW), Emergency Shelter Assistance (ESA) and Core Shelter Assistance Program (CSAP) for families who were rendered homeless by the typhoon. The Department already started processing the burial assistance of the 22 casualties.
