Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman receives the US$1,110,223.95 check donation of the Government of Taiwan from Ambassador Raymond L.S. Wang, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines, for the survivors of Typhoon Yolanda during a simple turnover ceremony on Tuesday at the DSWD Central Office.

Sec. Soliman thanked the people of Taiwan for their help saying that they are a longtime partner of the DSWD in providing aid to disaster victims.

She said that Taiwanese Government has already extended almost US$1 billion for the survivors of major disasters, including the 7.2-magnitude earthquake in Bohol and Typhoon Pablo in 2012.

For his part, Amb. Wang said, “The prompt emergency relief assistance of Taiwan to the Philippines is a solid evidence of my country’s commitment and steadfast support to the Philippines and its people.”

He added that Taiwan’s strong conviction to help the Philippines, especially in times of adversity is a testament that Taiwan is a true neighbor to the country.

“We are hoping that the tokens of love received by the Philippines not only for our country, but also from the whole international community could serve as a beacon of hope to Filipinos to rise again from the devastation brought by the super typhoon,” Amb. Wang said.

Meanwhile, as of June 4, DSWD has already received a total of US$22,975,657.91 foreign donations and P91,101,252.57 local donations for ‘Yolanda’ survivors. ###
