As Typhoon ‘Glenda’ intensifies and about to make a landfall later today, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) assured that prepositioned relief goods are enough in areas along the typhoon’s path.
A total of 78,722 family food packs, 755,404 assorted food items, and 506,260 assorted non-food items are also prepositioned at the National Resource Operations Center (NROC) in Pasay City and in DSWD-Field Offices I (Ilocos Region), II (Cagayan Valley), III (Central Luzon), IV-A Southern Luzon), Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and National Capital Region (NCR).
With ‘Glenda’ threatening to directly hit the Bicol Region, DSWD-Field Office V has prepositioned a total of 2,244 family food packs, 189,764 assorted food items and 55, 224 assorted non- food items ready for distribution to local government units (LGUs). Likewise, an additional 150 sacks of rice was allocated to the province of Catanduanes ready to be withdrawn anytime.
As of 11 a.m. today, some 1,000 passengers have been stranded in the seaports of Matnog and Pilar, Sorsogon.
Members of DSWD Quick Response Team (QRT) said that they are in touch with their counterparts at the local level to ensure that relief goods are ready for dispatch to the affected areas.
In its latest Bulletin issued by PAGASA, Typhoon Glenda is expected to make landfall over the Albay-Sorsogon area this evening.
Public Storm Warning Signal No. 3 was hoisted in five provinces in the Bicol Region including Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Camarines Sur, Burias and Ticao islands in Masbate, and Northern Samar in the Visayas.

With Signal Number 3 hoisted over Norther Samar, the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Field Office VIII said that its Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) Team in the province is closely coordinating with the local disaster risk reduction councils in the provincial and municipal levels.
It is currently loading 2,000 family food packs to be transported to Northern Samar.
To date, the Department received report from its SWAD Team in Norther Samar of on-going evacuation of unknown number of families in Laoang.
It likewise received report of a total of 1,450 individuals/passengers stranded at Port of Allen, Northern Samar.
In Tacloban City, a total of 290 families with 1,096 individuals who are currently living in tents in Brgys. 58, 88, 89, and 90 were evacuated to safer grounds. Hot meals were provided by the local government unit (LGU) to the evacuees.
DSWD said it will augment the city government’s resources with some 500 food packs, 500 blankets, and 2,500 bottled water.
As of presstime, DSWD has not received report of evacuees in Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran and in other parts of Leyte.
Field Office VIII has an available stockpile of 7,528 food packs and 22,500 rice packs stored at its hub here. A standby fund worth P1,017,444.99 is also available. ###
