The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has prepositioned P82.3-million in emergency relief resources for families that will be affected by Tropical Depression Caloy which entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility today.

These include P9.28 million standby funds, 58,846 family food packs worth P15.02 million, and other food and non-food items worth P58.01 million.

The prepositioning of standby funds and stockpiling of goods are part of DSWD’s preparations to augment resources of  local government units (LGUs) during disasters.

Eleven  provinces and one city in Davao Region, Northern Mindanao, Central Mindanao, and CARAGA are placed under storm warning signal number 1.

Residents living in low lying and mountainous areas are alerted against flashfloods and landslides.

DSWD, together with LGUs, has started the needs assessment of affected areas.

Local disaster management councils have been activated and DSWD will continue to mobilize its personnel to help affected families. ###
