The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will be holding a Humanitarian and Development Summit that aims to foster inclusiveness and coordination between the government and private sector on disaster response, risk reduction, and responsive social protection.

The Summit, which will be on Wednesday (September 4) in Ortigas Center, Pasig City, will serve as a platform to explore new ways of collaboration through the convergence of existing programs, and create discussions that may lead to policy formulation for program development in disaster risk reduction and management.

DSWD Asst. Secretary for Partnerships Building and Resource Mobilization Ana Maria Paz Rafael said the one-day Summit is geared towards promoting a whole-of-society approach to address the needs of Filipinos affected by disasters.

“The DSWD acknowledges the importance of strategic partnerships and engaging potential stakeholders in its provision of social welfare and development programs. By collaborating and building networks and alliances with local and international partners, we are assured of a better, stronger and more inclusive provision of social protection services to the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable sectors of society,” Asst. Secretary Rafael explained.

Select local, international, private partners and suppliers for food and non-food items will be invited to set up booths in the venue that will showcase their capabilities, resources, and expertise on disaster response.

Aside from the booths, the event will highlight three breakout sessions that will strategically address thematic issues and promote areas for collaboration.

Last is the session on Walang Gutom, which will provide an opportunity for participants to discuss efforts in addressing hunger and food security.
