As part of its advocacy to strengthen family relationships, the National Committee on the Filipino Family (NCFF), chaired by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), will lead the celebration of the National Family Week from September 20 to 27, 2013.
To kick-off the weeklong celebration, there will be tree planting, parade of families, and family fair at the Cayetano Sports Complex, Taguig City tomorrow, September 20, 2013. Mayor Lani Cayetano leads Taguig City, as the host for this year’s National Family Week celebration, in welcoming the participants.
Presidential Proclamation No. 60 declared the observance of the National Family Week on the last week of September and every year thereafter.
This year’s theme, “Unity Across Generations: A Strong Family, A Strong Society” or “Nagkakaisang Henerasyon: Matatag na Pamilya, Matatag na Lipunan,” aims to focus on inter-generational relationships among family members.
According to DSWD Secretary Soliman, the DSWD continues to implement programs to strengthen family relationships and values.
The Secretary cited the Family Development Sessions (FDS) for Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program beneficiaries where they are taught effective parenting, husband and wife relationships, child development, laws affecting Filipino family, gender and development, and house management.
Other activities during the weeklong celebration are: NCFF exhibit (September 24, SM Aura, Taguig City), National Family Conference (September 25, The Church of Jesus Christ LDS Buendia Chapel), and hanging of National Family Week streamer in all DSWD Regional Offices including attached agencies.
Also, this year’s celebration is done in partnership with Jollibee Foods Corporation, joining the NCFF in advocating for a strong family.
The NCFF also supports the observance of the “Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day” every 4thMonday of September as declared by the Presidential Proclamation No. 326 signed by President Benigno S. Aquino in January 2012. DSWD, as chair of the NCFF, enjoins all family members to observe this event and spend time with one another.
The celebration will culminate with the awarding of a Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya chosen from among the top three finalists of program beneficiaries nationwide. ###
