Tacloban City, Leyte –– The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said today that additional financial assistance amounting to P10,000 will be provided to the relatives of the casualties of  the fire incident inside the tent city  yesterday.

The Department added that it initially extended them P5,000 yesterday. They were also given one sack of rice and other relief goods.

The victims who were trapped in the fire were identified as Maria Elisa Ocenar, 39 and  her six children: namely, Jane Mae Kathleen, 11; Justin, 9;  John Mark, 7; Juvilyn, 5;  Jasmine Claire, 3;  and, Jachielyn, three months old.

John Mark who was rushed  to the Eastern Visayas Medical Center for medical treatment after sustaining third-degree burns later died in  the hospital.

Based on the incident report of DSWD-Field Office VIII, the fire was caused by a kerosene lamp that was left unattended.

DSWD said that the Ocenar Family  was a beneficiary of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, receiving monthly cash grants from the government. ###
