In preparation for the third year implementation of the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program this 2025, the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s  (DSWD) Field Offices (FOs) nationwide are now conducting their respective consultations and orientation sessions for partners and potential beneficiaries.

“We are meeting with the local government units (LGUs) and state universities and colleges (SUCs) to orient them on the program design and execution because they are our partners in implementing the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program in the different regions,” Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, the DSWD spokesperson, said on Monday (February 10).

The DSWD Field Office 5 – Bicol Region conducted its localized planning workshops in the municipalities of Camarines Sur, Sorsogon, and Albay last February 5 to 7.

The workshops were aimed at preparing the LGUs, SUCs, and participating elementary schools for their responsibilities. Program goals and timelines were also discussed to ensure the successful rollout of the program in Region 5.

According to Asst. Secretary Dumlao, the DSWD FO 5 is eying around 4,600 beneficiaries across the Bicol Region, including 2,000 learners, 2,000 parents, 400 tutors, and 200 youth development workers (YDWs).

In Northern Mindanao, the DSWD FO 10, in collaboration with the LGU of Lantapan, Bukidnon, also held a pre-orientation last February 4 in preparation for the launching of the tutoring program in the municipality.

In July 2023, the DSWD launched the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program in the National Capital Region (NCR) and later expanded it in partnership with the LGUs in Regions 3 (Central Luzon), 7 (Central Visayas), 8 (Eastern Visayas), 10 (Northern Mindanao), 12 (SOCCSKSARGEN), and CALABARZON in 2024.

“Other regions that are already implementing the tutoring program are also conducting preparation and planning workshops for a smooth execution, since the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program is now a flagship program of the national government,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao pointed out.

The Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program is the DSWD’s reformatted educational assistance. It was declared as a flagship program of the national government through Executive Order 76, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on November 2024. (YADP)
