slpSan Jose, Occidental Mindoro – Five barangays in this town were given P300,000 each by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)  through its Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) to start their own businesses.

DSWD Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman personally handed the checks to the representatives of the Self-Employment Kaunlaran Associations (SKAs) during a simple turnover ceremony recently.

“Ang pera pong ito ay puhunan ninyo para kayo ay makapagsimula ng inyong kabuhayan at nang sa gayon ay makatulong upang maiangat ang inyong pamumuhay (The money given to you will serve as your capital to start your own business which will help you improve your lives),” Sec. Soliman said.

Likewise, Sec. Soliman handed a check worth P1.7-M to Mayor Romulo Festin for the construction of Bahay Pag-asa, a youth center for Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL), in the municipality.
