Iloilo City – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Department of Agriculture (DA) have joined forces for the provision of food assistance to victims of Typhoon Yolanda in Western Visayas.

Under the tie-up project dubbed “Food First Project,” DA pooled its resources and came up with a savings of P3.58 million for the purchase of goods to be immediately distributed to typhoon victims specifically in the towns in Northern Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan and Antique.

DA Regional Executive Director Larry P. Nacionales turned over 6,000 trays of eggs, 40,000 cans of sardines, 140,000 packs of noodles, and 200 two-kilo bags of well-milled rice to DSWD-VI Regional Director Ma. Evelyn Macapobre after the signing of the memorandum of agreement yesterday.

Director Macapobre expressed gratitude for the partnership with DA saying that the goods will go a long way in helping meet the food needs of the typhoon victims.

As of November 15, DSWD-VI has released more than 78,000 food packs and 49 sacks of rice to the six provinces in Western Visayas amounting to P20.5 million. ###
