Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian was in the City of Bacoor in Cavite on Friday (September 20) to oversee the distribution of the emergency cash transfer (ECT) assistance to families displaced by Super Typhoon Carina and the recent fire incident in Barangay Zapote 3.

“Kaya nga ako nandito dahil pinapunta ako ng ating mahal na Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. Kasi nung malaman nya na sunud-sunod yung sunog dito sa Bacoor, sabi nya tawagan mo si Mayor Strike at gusto kong malaman ng mga taga-Bacoor na ang pamahalaang nasyunal…walang maliit na trahedya, walang malaking trahedya, lahat ng mga biktima tinutulungan,” Secretary Gatchalian told the beneficiaries who gathered at the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA-Molino Campus.

During the payout, the Department provided ECT assistance worth Php10,140 each to the 1,495 disaster-affected families.

In addition to the cash assistance, the DSWD, through its Field Office CALABARZON, also distributed food and non-food items worth Php10,920,460 to the displaced locals.

Secretary Gatchalian assured the affected families that the agency will continue to coordinate with the local government unit (LGU) of Bacoor City to ensure that they will receive sufficient assistance as they recover from the series of typhoon and fire incidents they experienced.

“Sa trahedya hindi naman sapat yung isang beses lang. Sabi nga ng ating Pangulo, susubaybayan dapat ng DSWD hanggang makabangon sila, hanggang maski papaano, makabwelo at makabawi muli ,” the DSWD chief told the affected families.

Bacoor City Mayor Strike Revilla assisted the DSWD chief in the aid distribution.

Also joining the DSWD chief were Undersecretary for Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) Diana Rose Cajipe, DSWD Field Office CALABARZON Director Barry Chua, and Assistant Regional Director for Operations Mylah Gatchalian.

The ECT is a DSWD program that provides additional assistance to families affected by disasters. #
