The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has extended financial assistance to the families of the four individuals who were buried in a landslide that occurred in Sitio Angelo, Barangay Umiray, General Nakar, Quezon province early morning of Tuesday (Oct. 24).

DSWD Field Office 4A (Calabarzon) Regional Director Barry Chua reported to the Central Office Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) that his personnel have already given financial aid of Php10,000 each to the relatives of the four fatalities.

“The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office will provide the burial assistance. The families of the fatalities are members of 4Ps (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program) hence, there is no need for further educational assistance,” Regional Director Chua reported to the DRMG.

Based on the initial assessment of the LGU of Gen. Nakar, the landslide was triggered by heavy and continuous rains last Monday (October 23) at the Sierra Madre mountains, near the tri-boundary of Gen. Nakar, Doña Aurora Trinidad in Bulacan, and Aurora province.

Initial report from the Army’s 80th Infantry Battalion said five houses were buried and through the efforts of residents and Army personnel, the bodies of the five victims were recovered and four of them have been identified, including two women.

Search and Rescue teams (SRTs) from Quezon Province and the Philippine Army are waiting for a clear weather for the deployment of additional SRTs.

According to FO-4A, the four fatalities have been processed at the morgue of Philippine Army in Tanay, Rizal. Two of the fatalities are from Tanay, Rizal while the other two bodies will be transported to Gen. Nakar, Quezon.#
