The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has assisted local government units (LGUs) in responding to the needs of families and individuals affected by Tropical Depression Usman. 

DSWD Field Office (FO) in Region V has sent 216 Family Food Packs (FFPs) amounting to P93,744 to the Municipality of Pilar, Sorsogon which were distributed to stranded passengers in the town.

On the other hand, the Department’s FO in Region VI extended aid to stranded passengers in Iloilo and Dumangas Port due to the cancellation of trips bound to Palawan and Bacolod City. The field office distributed 870 FFPs to the stranded passengers. 

DSWD FO VII, likewise, assisted stranded passengers in Cebu City Ports. Dinner worth P6,320 was provided by the field office to at least 75 individuals in Pier 3.

Concerned DSWD field offices continue to monitor the status of the affected families  to ensure the quick provision of their immediate needs. 

Meanwhile, the Department is also monitoring the situation of residents of the Municipality of Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental, which was hit by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake yesterday.

DSWD Field Office in Region XI is coordinating closely with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) of Governor Generoso for significant updates on the situation on the ground and the possible provision of aid to the residents. 

“We are closely monitoring the situation in Governor Generoso through our Field Office XI. We have instructed our FO to assist the LGU in responding to the effects of the quake and to provide immediate assistance to the affected families,” DSWD Spokesperson, Assistant Secretary Glenda Relova said.

“The DSWD Central Office, Field Offices, and the National Resource Operations Center have stockpiles and standby funds amounting to ₱1,274,278,561.78 which can readily be used to respond to emergency situations,” the spokesperson added. ###
