In recognition of the contribution of local government units in promoting children’s rights, the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) will confer the Presidential Awards to the most child friendly municipalities and cities on April 17, 2013 at the Bahay Alumni, UP Diliman.

Social Welfare and Development Secretary and CWC Chairperson Corazon Juliano-Soliman and Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas will lead the awarding ceremonies.

The CWC, an attached agency of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), has been spearheading the conferment of the Presidential Awards since 1999 by virtue of its mandate as the focal government agency for children’s concerns.

According to Secretary Soliman, the conferment of this Presidential Awards to deserving local government units is important to sustain efforts on the promotion of children’s rights to survival, development, protection and participation, as well as in ensuring child-friendly governance.

Secretary Soliman will hand over the Presidential Trophies and P300,000.00 each to the five most child-friendly LGUs.

The five winning LGUs will come from the 21 LGU- finalists namely, Mariveles, Bataan; La Trinidad, Benguet; Agoo, La Union; Labo, Camarines Norte; Tubigon, Bohol; Villaverde, Nueva Viscaya; Pilar, Cebu; Guimbal, Iloilo; Samal, Bataan; Tagaytay City; Laoag City; Tagum City; Talisay City, Cebu; Manadaluyong City; Davao City; Olongapo City; Butuan City; Bacolod City; Baguio City; Santiago City and Ormoc City.

Some five hundred (500) government officials both national and local, children from LGUs and non-government organizations; UN Agencies, donors/sponsors, corporate foundations, civic organizations; and members of the Diplomatic Corps will attend the event. ###
