The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has given immediate aid to the affected families of the fire incident in Puerto Princesa, Palawan on Wednesday (February 7), an agency official said.

DSWD Asst. Secretary for Strategic Communications Romel Lopez said the Field Office MIMAROPA has distributed 200 family food packs (FFPs), 200 sanitary kits and other non-food items to the families whose houses were razed in Barangays Pagkakaisa and Bagong Silang.

“The distribution of aid is being carried out to ensure that essential supplies reach those affected as quickly as possible,” Asst. Sec. Lopez, who is also the agency spokesperson, pointed out.

Tents that will serve as temporary shelters for the affected families are also being prepared, the DSWD spokesperson noted.

Asst. Sec. Lopez pointed out that the DSWD MIMAROPA, in coordination with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), is currently conducting profiling of the affected families.

“This necessary step helps the agency in identifying specific needs and providing targeted assistance to those who were affected by the fire incident,” the agency spokesperson said.

Based on the report from DSWD MIMAROPA, a total of 198 families or some 926 individuals from the two barangays were affected by the fire incident.

Asst. Sec. Lopez reiterated that the DSWD remains committed to providing assistance and support to the affected families in Puerto Princesa and will continue to work closely with local authorities and partners to address the needs of the community. #
