The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) assured the public that it is now coordinating with all the local government units (LGUs) experiencing flash floods since November 7 due to the effects of easterlies.

The DSWD also reported it is ready to provide assistance and resource augmentation to the flood-affected LGUs and communities.

In the November 9 report of the DSWD’s Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC), several barangays in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte experienced flash floods and floodings.

A flash flood incident also occurred in Barangay Caridad, Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat and a rain-induced landslide along Sitio Lower Ladol, Barangay Assumption, Koronadal City due to the presence of the said weather disturbance.

Several barangays in Davao City also experienced flooding that resulted in the displacement of families and individuals.

“Our DSWD Field Offices in Northern Mindanao, Davao, and Soccsksargen are continuously coordinating with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) of their respective LGUs for significant updates and any requests for relief augmentation,” Assistant Secretary for Strategic Communications Romel Lopez said.

The DSWD Field Office in SOCCSKSARGEN also conducted field validation and monitoring of the status of displaced families and individuals in Koronadal City.

As of press time, a total of 2,051 families or 7,867 individuals in 11 barangays in Regions 10 (Northern Mindanao), 11 (Davao Region) and 12 (SOCCSKSARGEN) have been affected by the weather disturbance.

Currently, the DSWD Central Office, Field Offices, and the National Resource Operations Center (NROC) have stockpiles and standby funds amounting to more than ₱2.6 billion. #
