Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman received today the USD100,000 (roughly P4.3 million) check donation of Taiwan through the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) for earthquake victims in Central Visayas.

Secretary Soliman  accepted the donation from Taiwanese Ambassador to the Philippines Raymond L.S. Wang during a simple turn-over ceremony at the DSWD central office in Quezon City.

In her message, Secretary Soliman expressed her sincere thanks for the generous donation of the people of Taiwan.

“The strong ties and solidarity between the Philippines and Taiwan is very evident.  You are not only the closest neighbor of the Philippines and a good trade partner, but more importantly, you are always ready to help us when we need it most,” she said.

The Secretary said that the donation will go a long way in  providing continuing relief assistance to families in quake-hit areas in Bohol.

“Our priority at the moment aside from continuing relief goods distribution is for the victims to have temporary shelter,” Secretary Soliman said.

For his part, Ambassador Wang acknowledged the efforts of  DSWD, other national government agencies and local government units to rebuild the lives of the earthquake victims in Central Visayas.  ###
