Twenty five families  with members who died at the height of TS ‘Santi’ will soon receive their P10,000 financial assistance from Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Initially, on Friday, October 18, DSWD team went to Concepcion, Tarlac and San Miguel, Bulacan to personally hand over the financial aid to five bereaved families.  The DSWD in Central Luzon will distribute the financial assistance to the other bereaved families anytime this month.

The DSWD-Disaster Risk Reduction and Response Operations Office (DRRROO)  reported nine (9) deaths in Nueva Ecija, seven (7) in Bulacan, six (6) in Pampanga, two (2) in Tarlac, and one (1) in Zambales.     

In Concepcion, Tarlac, the awarding of financial assistance to Mary Ann Samson,  a resident of barangay Agustin Murcia was witnessed by Municipal Mayor Andres D. Lacson.   She was given burial assistance of P20,000 for her children Rochelle (8 years old) and Raymond (7 years old) who died when their house collapsed. ‘We are grateful to the DSWD for their financial assistance to Samson who lost two of her children,” Mayor Andres Lacson said.

According to  Samson, she recalled that fateful day of October 11 when typhoon ‘Santi’ destroyed their house burying alive her two children.  “It was very difficult for our family to accept that we lost two little angels, who bring life and joy to our family,” Samson said.

The DSWD team also went to San Miguel, Bulacan to award the financial assistance to the family-relatives of the four (4) fatalities of typhoon ‘Santi’ in the province.

The DSWD likewise distributed 545 family food packs to affected families of barangay Mabilog, Concepcion, Tarlac as well as 500 family food packs in Sapangbayan, Calumpit, Bulacan. 

As of today, October 21, DSWD Secretary Dinky Soliman said that more than P29 million worth of combined relief assistance from Local Government Units, Non-Government Organizations, and other National Government Agencies were provided to affected families by typhoon ‘Santi’ in Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, and Bicol. ###
