The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues to assist the victims of flooding due to heavy rains brought by the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) which occurred on October 5-8, 2013 in Visayas and Mindanao Regions.

To date, some P6.33 million worth of relief assistance from the combined resources of DSWD (P3.39 million), local government units (P2.35 million) and non-government organizations (P581,370.00) were provided to the affected families.

As of 12 noon today,  some 47 evacuation centers remain open providing temporary shelter to 4,361 families or 18,927 persons while 22,875 families or 104,171 persons outside the evacuation centers are also being provided with relief assistance.

The evacuation centers are located in the following: one in Region VI with four families;  35 in Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga City with 3,049 families;  30 families in Bukidnon;   two in Sultan Kudarat and Cotabato with 49 families;  and eight in Basilan and Sulo with 1,229 families.

The DSWD in Central Visayas will distribute today 7,179 family packs to the affected families in Sta. Catalina, Siaton, Basay, Dumaguete City, and Bayawan, Negros Oriental. ###
