cwcThe Filipino child has every reason to be happy as more child-friendly local government units are awarded by the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) for creating a child-friendly society.

During the ceremony, 21 finalists were recognized, however, five Local Government Units stood out as Most Child-Friendly. They are: (clockwise) Davao City , most child-friendly Highly Urbanized City Category; Santiago City, Independent component City category; Tubigon, Bohol wins its first award as the 1st-3rd class municipality category; Villaverde, Nueva Viscaya, most child-friendly 4th-6th class municipality and Tagaytay City as Most Child-Friendly Component City.

They all received Presidential trophies and P 300,000.00 from DSWD Secretary and Chairman of CWC Corazon “Dinky” Juliano Soliman, Department of Interior Local government Secretary Mar Roxas and Department of Education Secretary Armin Luistro.

The winning LGUs were chosen for their sustained promotion of children’s rights to survival, development protection and participation as well as in ensuring child-friendly governance.

The CWC holds the annual awards to recognize and inspire Local Government Units which sustained their efforts to make the society a better place for children to live in.

The Local chief executives expressed their gratitude for the recognition. They emphasized, though that what matters are the concrete steps in promoting the general well-being of children to sustain the gains in health and education. ###
