With the continuous onslaught of heavy rains due to ‘Habagat’ or the Southwest Monsoon that is prevailing over Luzon, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)  remains on alert  to assist local government units (LGUs) that are affected by the weather disturbance.

Adequate food and non-food items have been prepositioned by concerned DSWD-Field Offices ready for distribution as augmentation support to the LGUs, if needed.

In CALABARZON, the DSWD-Field Office here facilitated a pre-emptive evacuation of four families in Nasugbu, Batangas and some 16 families in Taytay, Rizal.

Meanwhile in Region III, an evacuation center was opened in Sta Cruz., Zambales  providing temporary shelter to 10 displaced families or 39 persons.  Moreover,   16 houses in Pampanga  were reported damaged.

DSWD Acting Secretary Virginia Orogo stressed that the Department will continue its diligent monitoring and collaboration with the LGUS for any eventuality.

The Acting Secretary said,  “DSWD is on standby to extend immediate assistance to those who will be affected. We also caution our kababayans  in Luzon to take care and be vigilant  as the heavy rains may cause flooding and landslides.” ###
