Typhoon ‘Pablo’ left thousands of homeless families from the municipalities of New Bataan, Compostela, Montevista, Monkayo in Compostela Valley; and Boston, Cateel and Baganga in Davao Oriental.

As of today, December 10, there are 19,176 totally damaged and 26,880 partially damaged houses in Region XI.

According to Social Welfare and Development Secretary Dinky Soliman, the DSWD has started to build bunkhouses amounting to P42 million in the seven municipalities in Davao Region that were devastated by super typhoon ‘Pablo.’

“The bunkhouses will be built through the cash-for-work program of the DSWD.  Family-beneficiaries will be involved in the construction of their houses so that they will have additional income for their families. Each worker will receive P218 a day for the program.” Secretary Soliman said.

Likewise, the DSWD and the Offices of Compostela Valley Governor Arturo T. Uy and Davao Oriental Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon as well as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) are now identifying permanent relocation sites.

As of today, December 10, a total of P18,330,500 worth of food and non-food items was released by the DSWD to typhoon victims in Davao Region.

The DSWD has also partnered with Greenpeace Philippines for the sea transport of 400 sacks of rice and 2,000 boxes of bottled water which will arrive in Davao City on December 11.  ### 10 December 2012 (DSWD-Social Marketing Service)
