Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian will be among the speakers at the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2025 to be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from February 11 to 13.
The World Government Summit is renowned for gathering prominent leaders, policy makers, and experts worldwide to address critical global challenges such as fighting poverty and hunger, and crisis mitigation.
The WGS was formed in 2013 under the leadership of Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum and has since brought together international organizations, think-tanks, global decision-makers, and private leaders from 140 countries to chart a brighter future.
Since its inception, the Summit has emerged as a global platform that fosters international collaboration, by bringing together governments and the private sector to enhance the global landscape.
Secretary Gatchalian will participate in several roundtable discussion on Shaping Future Governments, Sustainable Developments Goals (SDGs) and Transformative Innovations. The Secretary will discuss the innovative programs of the DSWD such as the Walang Gutom Program (WGP) as well as the Project LAWA (Local Adaptation to Water Access) and BINHI (Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished).
The DSWD chief will also join the 3rd Cohort of Global Councils on SDGs and he is expected to accept the chairmanship of the Global Council on SDG 1: ‘No Poverty” where he will discuss the best practices of the Philippines on the conditional cash transfer (CCT) program known as the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).
Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, who is also the DSWD spokesperson, said Secretary Gatchalian is part of the Philippine government delegation to the annual international conference, with First Lady Marie Louise Araneta-Marcos as the country’s representative.
“The active participation of the DSWD chief in the conference is an opportunity to highlight the Philippine government’s best practices, particularly in the area of social welfare and development,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao said. (LSJ)
