The Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Field Offices (FOs) are in close coordination with all local government units (LGUs) that are along the track of Tropical Depression Kristine, an agency official said on Tuesday (October 22).
“Yesterday , the DSWD’s Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) convened an online meeting with regional directors to update us on their preparations for TD Kristine. They assured us that they are consistently in touch with our LGU counterparts and that all disaster preparedness measures and activities are in place,” DRMG Asst. Secretary Irene Dumlao, who is also the DSWD spokesperson, said.
Special Assistant to the Secretary (SAS) for DRMG Leo Quintilla, who is also concurrent Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the National Resource and Logistics Management Bureau (NRLMB), reminded concerned FOs to utilize their prepositioned stockpiles of family food packs (FFPs).
“If concerned FOs need to move FFPs from other warehouses to affected areas, implement our “first in, first out” policy. We will replenish FOs with new stocks,” SAS Quintilla told the concerned DSWD regional directors.
As of press time, the National Resource Operations Center (NROC), the main disaster response hub of the DSWD, maintains 176,436 boxes of FFPs ready for augmentation upon the request of would-be affected localities.
In the regions, the DSWD FO 1-Ilocos Region has 94,838 boxes of FFPs in its spokes and last mile warehouses; 114,381 FFPs in the spokes and last mile warehouses of DSWD FO-2 (Cagayan Valley); and 63,618 FFPs in the spokes and last mile warehouses of DSWD FO-CAR.
Spokes refer to DSWD warehouses located in the cities as well as 1st up to 3rd class municipalities while the last mile warehouses are located in 4th to 6th class municipalities.
As part of the DSWD’s preparedness for response measures, the agency also distributed 1,020 FFPs to locals in the municipality of Itbayat in the island province of Batanes on Monday (October 21). There is also an ongoing distribution of 575 FFPs in the municipality of Sabtang.
In response to the directive of DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian to coordinate for the speedy delivery of relief supplies, Asst. Secretary Dumlao said a Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) vessel carrying additional boxes of FFPs is scheduled to depart from Pier 15, South Harbor, in Manila going to the Batanes on October 27, subject to favorable weather conditions. #

Samantala, bilang paghahanda naman para sa disaster response measures, ang DSWD ay nakapamahagi na ng 1,020 FFPs sa mga lokal na munisipalidad ng Itbayat sa Batanes nitong Lunes (October 21). Mayroon din na ongoing distribution ng 575 FFPs sa munisipalidad ng Sabtang.
Gayundin, bilang tugon sa direktiba ni DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian sinabi ni Asst. Secretary Dumlao na ang Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) vessel na may lulan na karagdagang kahon ng FFPs ay nakatakdang magtungo sa Batanes mula sa Pier 15, South Harbor, Manila sa October 27. #
