Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian has directed the agency’s Field Office (FO)-CALABARZON to send immediate assistance to the local government unit (LGU) of Bacoor City in Cavite province following the fire that engulfed residential houses in Longos, Barangay Zapote 3 on Tuesday (September 10).
Upon learning of the fire incident, Secretary Gatchalian ordered FO-CALABARZON Regional Director Barry Chua to immediately coordinate with Bacoor Representative Lani Mercado for the provision of relief support for the lady solon’s fire-hit constituents.
In an updated report to Secretary Rex Gatchalian, Director Chua said the FO has 14,000 family food packs (FFPs) prepositioned in Bacoor City and ready to be distributed to the fire-hit families.
The DSWD-provided modular tents were also picked up by the Bacoor City LGU on Tuesday night from the agency’s National Resource Operations Center (NROC) in Pasay City.
The modular tents, according to Director Chua, were requested by the Bacoor City government to assist the evacuees who were left homeless following the three-hour fire incident.
Based on the September 11 incident report from FO-CALABARZON, some 479 families or 1,640 individuals have been affected by the fire and are temporarily staying in 16 evacuation centers in Bacoor City.
The FO-CALABARZON has also deployed the staff of its Disaster Response and Management Division (DRMD) and members of its Quick Response Team (QRT) to the ‘ground zero’ to conduct Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (RDANA).
Regional Director Chua informed Secretary Gatchalian that the FO will continue monitoring the extent of the fire incident and ensure additional augmentation support to the LGU, including subsequent financial assistance for the affected families. #
