The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will coordinate with all affected local government units (LGUs) in the provision of cash assistance to families hit by the effects of Super Typhoon Carina and the enhanced southwest monsoon or “Habagat,” DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian said on Saturday (July 27).
“Once we get all of those we’ll evaluate them and figure out how to go, how to move forward, whether we use AICS, or yung emergency cash transfer (ECT) that we use,” said Secretary Gatchalian during the situation briefing with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in the Provincial Capitol Building in Malolos, Bulacan.
Some of the interventions that the agency is looking into under the recovery and rehabilitation phase include the provision of ECT, Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS), or cash-for-work.
The DSWD chief reported to the President that the afency has already provided a total of Php132.943 million worth of humanitarian aid, composed of food and non-food items, to  families affected by Carina in their respective regions.
Among the Typhoon Carina-affected regions were the National Capital Region (NCR), Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, and Western Visayas.
“We’ll keep on working with the provinces and we’ll keep on working with the LGUs as well,” Secretary Gatchalian said. #
