Secretary Dinky Soliman during her recent visit to an evacuation center in Brgy. 105, Baseco Compound where she witnessed distribution of relief goods to some 145 displaced familiesThe Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and concerned local government units have joined efforts to help victims of Typhoon ‘Gener’ particularly in Regions I, II, III, IV-A, IV-B, VI, X, CAR and NCR.

According to Social Welfare and Development Secretary Dinky Soliman, the DSWD is working closely with LGUs through their City/Municipal Social Welfare and Development Offices (C/MSWDOs) to provide needed relief assistance to affected families as well as in the management of evacuation centers.

As of August 1, 6:00 a.m., 61,335 families composed of 295,388 persons in 449 barangays, 15 cities, 82 municipalities, and 21 provinces in nine regions have been affected by typhoon ‘Gener.’

To date, 27 evacuation centers remain open providing temporary shelter to 907 families or 3,798 persons.  These evacuation centers are located in Metro Manila (3), Benguet (2), Pangasinan (1), Bulacan (4), Cavite (3), Batangas (3), Rizal (2), Laguna (1); Occidental  Mindoro (2) and Negros Occidental (6).

Likewise, a total of 30,828 families or 148,452 persons are being assisted outside evacuation centers.

The DSWD Field Offices in the affected regions reported a total of 2,379 damaged houses of which 375 were totally damaged and 2,004 were partially destroyed.

The total amount of relief assistance provided to the affected families as of 6am today, is P2,517,747 from the combined resources of the DSWD (P883,390.00), concerned LGUs (P1,402,357) and non-government organizations (P232,000).

Secretary Soliman disclosed that the DSWD has prepositioned some P43.82 million composed of P4.77 million standby funds and P39 million relief goods ready for distribution to LGUs affected by typhoon ‘Gener.’
